Jesus Institutes the Lord’s Supper

When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him. 15 Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 or I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; 18 for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes. 19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you. Luke 22:14-20 NKJV

Greetings Church,

Here we find the account as given in Luke 22, of our Lord Jesus with the disciples breaking bread, instituting for His church of all ages, the Lord’s Supper. Christ instructs, “this is My body which is given for you”. His body, bruised and wounded. His death an offering for sin in our stead.  Jesus goes on to proclaim, “this cup is the new covenant in My blood. Which is shed for you”.  This do in remembrance of Me – which is our remembrance of his love for us, a commemoration of his sacrificial offering, for our healing and for his making atonement for sin.  This we are to do in remembrance of what He did for us, as a memorial of our uniting ourselves to him in an everlasting covenant. For as often as you eat this bread, and drink this cup, you show the Lord’s death till he comes (1Cor 11).

You are welcome to join with all the people of God this Sunday for Communion Sunday here at Christ’s Chapel at 10:30AM.  Come believing that our Lord God will bless as you bring your worship to Him.

We look forward to fellowshipping with you,

Pastor Simeon Strauser
